The Lagos State Police Command has invited the parties involved in a viral social media dispute between a lady and an e-hailing driver over an alleged attempted robbery, to come forward for investigation.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, made this known on Thursday via her verified X handle, saying the command was aware of the widely circulated post and was taking steps to establish the facts.

“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of the widely circulated post and is inviting the concerned parties to come forward. The parties may reach out to me via call or WhatsApp on 09055390070 for a direct link-up,” Adebisi stated.

She added that the police were committed to ensuring fairness to all sides, urging both the complainant and the driver to present themselves for proper clarification of the incident.

The controversy began earlier in the week after a user identified as @Big-Itohan alleged on X that an e-hailing driver had conspired with a group of men to stage a robbery after claiming his car broke down. Her post, which quickly went viral, triggered public outrage and renewed concerns over passenger safety on ride-hailing platforms.

However, the driver, James Oluwatosin, has publicly denied the accusation. In an interview, he maintained that his vehicle had genuinely developed a fault and that he was also threatened by hoodlums who appeared at the scene.

“I was not involved in any robbery. My car broke down near Yaba, and before I could even call for help, some area boys came around. I was as scared as my passenger,” Oluwatosin said.

Meanwhile, the management of the ride-hailing app inDrive, through an unnamed company representative, has confirmed awareness of the case and pledged to assist the police with all relevant trip data to aid investigation.

As of press time, both parties were yet to publicly confirm meeting with police investigators, but SP Adebisi reiterated that the command would pursue the matter to a logical conclusion to prevent misinformation and ensure justice.
