The Joint Security Task Force has apprehended a suspected logistics supplier involved in distributing hard drugs to bandits operating in Yagba West local government area, of Kogi State.
The suspect, identified as Femi Owoloja, an indigene of Ejiba, was arrested at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in Odo-Eri, along Saminaka Road, during a routine patrol by the JTF.
Owoloja was allegedly conveying the suspected illicit substances to the bandits when security operatives intercepted him.
According to security sources, his accomplices had already loaded two cartons of drugs to be delivered to the criminal elements through their motorcycle before fleeing upon sighting the security team, while Owoloja was captured as he attempted to escape.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who is said to be the Chairman, Ejiba Branch of the Okada Riders Association, confessed to sourcing the drugs from a chemist shop in Egbe for onward delivery to his accomplices in the forest.
The Chief Press Secretary to the chairman of Yagba West local government council, Adeyemi Babarinde Sunday, said the suspect was also found with the sum of ₦600,000, suspected to be proceeds or operational funds for the illegal transaction.
Adeyemi added that the suspect was currently in custody as further investigations continued to uncover links, sponsors, and other collaborators in the supply chain aiding banditry and criminal activities in Yagba West.
The Chairman of Yagba West LGA, Hon. Tosin Olokun, commended the operatives for their swift response and renewed efforts in dismantling criminal logistics networks across the zone.
Olokun reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to ensuring the safety and peace of all communities and warned individuals against aiding, harbouring, or transacting business with criminal groups.
The chairman assured that all suspects found culpable will be handed over to relevant security agencies for prosecution in accordance with the law.
