President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Ademola Osinubi, former managing director and editor-in-chief of Punch Nigeria Limited, on his 70th birthday. He described him as a towering figure in Nigerian journalism whose integrity, courage and dedication to truth have left a lasting mark on the media landscape.
In a personal tribute released on Sunday, President Tinubu commended Osinubi for his exemplary leadership, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to ethical journalism throughout his career.
“Your 70th birthday is significant not only for the years you have lived but for your invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s media industry,” the President said.
He recalled that Osinubi joined Punch in 1976 and rose through the ranks by sheer hard work, resilience, and discipline until he became Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief — a position he held for 27 years. Tinubu noted that during Osinubi’s tenure, he led Punch through eras of innovation and courage, navigating the turbulent years of military repression while upholding the paper’s independence and credibility.
“You are proof that success is attainable with purpose and vision,” the President added, praising the veteran journalist for mentoring a generation of professionals and contributing to Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
Tinubu said Osinubi’s fidelity to journalism ethics and lifelong pursuit of excellence had strengthened the nation’s democracy and enriched public discourse.
“You have etched a fine print of excellence on the tome of journalism, and I thank you for your consistent pursuit of our nation’s progress,” he stated.
The President prayed that God grant Mr Osinubi many more years of good health, wisdom, and fulfilment as he marks the milestone.
“Happy 70th birthday, Demola,” the President concluded.
