Dankwambo, a former governor of Gombe State and currently serving as the senator representing the Gombe North Senatorial District, was elected as the new president of the NCF and subsequently inaugurated by the National Sports Commission’s Electoral Committee at the Indoor Sports Hall of Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Saturday.

He characterised his election not merely as a personal milestone but as a significant achievement for Nigerian chess, marking a new chapter defined by visionary leadership, professionalism, and exemplary sportsmanship.

Dankwambo also congratulated the newly elected board members who will work alongside him in the Nigeria Chess Federation. “As your president, I pledge to maintain an open-door policy, welcoming your insights, creativity, and free-flowing ideas without reservation. Our collective efforts and innovative thinking will be vital in advancing the federation, ensuring both progress and success for Nigerian chess. I encourage all of you to share your unique perspectives and enthusiasm as we collaborate to realise our shared vision,” he added in his message of appreciation to the delegates and stakeholders.

Looking to the future, Dankwambo expressed his ambition to foster an inclusive, dynamic, and highly professional chess ecosystem, cultivating talent from grassroots schools to higher educational institutions across Nigeria.

“We are committed to establishing sustainable corporate partnerships and alliances that will enhance participation, improve competitive standards, and increase visibility on both national and international stages.”

In assuming this leadership role, he reaffirmed his commitment to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and governance, as outlined in the National Sports Commission Code of Governance 2025. Dankwambo vowed that the Nigeria Chess Federation would become a model of integrity and excellence in the administration of Nigerian sports. “Together, through our shared dedication, respect for the game, and professional excellence, we will elevate Nigerian chess to unprecedented heights on the global stage.”
