The Presidency has expressed delight over the smooth screening and confirmation of the newly appointed Service Chiefs by the Senate on Wednesday.
Reacting shortly after the confirmation of the military appointees, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, commended the Senate for what he described as a demonstration of strong collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature in advancing national security.
In a statement issued to journalists in Abuja, Senator Lado said his office had facilitated the crucial interface to ensure a seamless and coordinated engagement between both arms of government, in line with President Tinubu’s commitment to effective governance and national stability.
“As the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, I facilitated this crucial interface to ensure a smooth and coordinated engagement between the Executive and the Legislature, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to effective governance and national security,” he stated.
Lado praised the President’s strategic choice of the new military leaders — Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Major Gen. Waidi Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Air Vice Marshal Sunday K. Aneke (Chief of Air Staff), and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff) — noting that their appointments represent a deliberate step toward strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.
“The appointment of these distinguished officers by President Tinubu represents a strategic step towards strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and fostering synergy among the Armed Forces for the protection of our nation’s sovereignty and citizens,” he said.
The presidential aide also expressed appreciation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Senate leadership, and all lawmakers for the prompt and thorough consideration of the nominees.
“Their commitment underscores the strong collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature in advancing the national interest and ensuring the security and stability of our dear nation,” he added.
