The Lagos State Safety Commission denied any involvement on Thursday in a viral video circulating on social media, which alleged that one of its staff members had collected a bribe from unsuspecting residents in the Oworonshoki area of the state.

The commission, in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Okoh Adewunmi, disowned the woman identified as Mariam Bunmi, saying she is neither a staff member nor affiliated with the Commission in any capacity.

According to the statement, “The said Mariam Bunmi is not and has never been an employee of the Lagos State Safety Commission. She is unknown to the Commission in any capacity.”

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and integrity, emphasising that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for corruption, extortion, and any other unethical conduct.

It also urged members of the public to disregard the viral video and remain cautious of impostors posing as government officials.

“Our mandate is to ensure the safety of the lives and property of Lagosians. We therefore urge the public to disregard the claims in the video and remain vigilant against impostors posing as Commission officials.

“For clarification or verification, members of the public are encouraged not to pay any money to individuals posing as officials of the Lagos State Safety Commission but to apprehend and report such fraudulent acts through our official channels,” the statement added.

The Commission assured residents that it would continue to uphold its responsibility of ensuring safety compliance across Lagos State while protecting the public from fraudulent activities carried out in its name.
