Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a subsidiary of Thor Explorations Ltd and operator of Nigeria’s first commercial gold project, the Segilola Gold Mine in Osun State, has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible mining and sustainable community development during the 2025 Nigeria Mining Week held in Abuja from October 13 to 17.

As a Gold Sponsor of the annual event, SROL hosted its Second Annual Stakeholder Reception at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, bringing together over 100 key industry stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, financiers, legal experts, and development partners.

Notable dignitaries at the event included Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo, permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development; Prof. Innocent Bariko, director general, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA); Engr. Simon Obadiah Nkom, director general, Mining Cadastre Office; and Prof. Olusegun Omoniyi Ige, director general, Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA). Senior representatives from Babalakin & Co., ENR Advisory, VUKA Group, Africa Finance Corporation, and the Bank of Industry were also in attendance.

Speaking at the reception, SROL’s chief executive officer, Segun Lawson, appreciated the support of stakeholders who have contributed to the company’s journey and emphasised the importance of sustainability in mining operations.

“It took a lot of courage to build what we have. It takes courage to do things differently—to build mines not just for profit, but for people, the planet, and posterity. At Segilola, we have chosen a path grounded in responsibility and driven by innovation, committing to a sustainable future for Nigerian mining,” Lawson stated.

During the event, guests were exposed to the tangible impact of SROL’s community initiatives, including livelihood restoration programmes and projects to strengthen local economies. The initiatives reflect the company’s inclusive mining approach and focus on long-term community empowerment.
