Anthony Joshua is in line for a boxing return this December, but not in the blockbuster fashion fans are used to.

The former heavyweight champion is reportedly being lined up for a fight on the undercard of the December 20 Matchroom Boxing show in Accra, Ghana.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has been vocal about a new, patient approach for Joshua following his September 2024 loss to Daniel Dubois. Hearn insists any fight this year would be purely for development.

“There will be no big-name fight this year. It wouldn’t be a headline,” Hearn stated, emphasizing the goal is to have Joshua “100 per cent ready for the big one”—a fight he later confirmed is against Tyson Fury.

The Ghana event, headlined by Craig Richards vs. Dan Azeez, offers a perfect platform for this plan. It also allows Joshua to fulfill a personal goal of competing in Africa.

The show will proceed after Ghana recently lifted a temporary ban on professional boxing, following the introduction of upgraded safety protocols.

While not yet confirmed, Joshua’s potential appearance in a supporting role signals a strategic shift to quietly rebuild towards a career-defining showdown in 2025.
