Sardauna Foundation Cautions Leaders Against Graft

Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna Memorial Foundation has called on leaders to uphold the principles and ethics of public leadership, shun personalising public treasury and personal prejudice to avoid societal upheavals like what happened in Bangladesh and Nepal.

The chairman National Board of trustees of the foundation and former Nigerian State Governor Senator Babangida Muazu stated this while fielding questions from newsmen during their visit to Jigawa State.

He said the Foundation Board of Trustees were in Jigawa state as part of their nationwide visit for reawakening leaders to the responsibility placed on their shoulders and the need to emulate the Late Sardauna legacy of exemplary leadership.

Senator Babangida noted that the current security challenge, social and economic crises militating against Northern Nigeria and the country at large was as a result of leadership failure.
He maintained that if leaders had stood up to their responsibilities, they could have tackled the ongoing security challenge before it degenerated.

“The hypocritical and regional sentiments promoted by some self-centered and myopic leaders were among the factors that worsened the security challenge and everyone must join hands to tackle it,” he said.

The chairman urged northern leaders to invest more in education, being a key driver for social and economic transformation.

The foundation commended the simplicity and exemplary leadership of Governor Umar Namadi which had transformed Jigawa State and brought it to the path of achieving sustainable prosperity.
