Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have busted a suspected armed robbery syndicate  specialsing in dispossessing people of their cars and other valuables at gunpoint.

The police public relations officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this to journalists at the state headquarters yesterday, said the incident happened around the Nassarawa (Hausa quarters) at Mbak Itam 111 axis of Itu local government area of the state.

She said the suspicion was raised by the police operatives who spotted the suspects during a stop-and-search operation within the zone, but unfortunately, they could not arrest them as the four occupants fled into the nearby bush upon being flagged down for a search.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough following a successful operation on Friday, November 7, 2025.

“At about 23:30 hours, a surveillance patrol team while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation along Mbak Itam III, by Nassarawa Market, sighted a black Toyota Camry car with registration number LND 360 DC.

“The vehicle, which was occupied by four individuals, was strongly suspected to be stolen, upon sighting the police team, the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush to evade arrest,” she explained.
