As the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) reached its final week in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Team Nigeria is focused on building upon a commendable start that has seen them currently place 6th in the overall medals table among 58 competing nations.

So far, Team Nigeria has achieved a commendable total of 14 medals, comprising 6 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze, with most of them coming from weightlifting and a silver medal in boxing.

With Track and Field events set to commence on Monday, 17th November 2025, alongside Para Sports shortly thereafter, Team Nigeria anticipates to significantly enhance its medal tally and improve its position on the medals table.

Notably, Nigeria’s Taekwondo star, Elizabeth Anyanacho, is gearing up for her gold medal bid on Sunday, facing the winner of the Quarter-finals between Mauritania and Mozambique.

Having recently shattered a 20-year record in the -67kg category with a bronze at the World Championship in China, Anyanacho aims to cap off the year with a gold in Riyadh.

In Track and Field, there are 43 gold medals available, and Nigeria’s contingent, consisting of a dynamic blend of emerging talents and seasoned athletes from abroad, is poised to make a significant impact at the Prince Faisal bin Fahad Sports City.

The Nigerian wrestling team, now under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs and President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Adewale Adeniyi, will commence their competitions on Tuesday at Boulevard Riyadh City.

Nigeria’s medal haul is expected to grow further as the country’s Para athletes gear up for events in both Powerlifting and Para-Athletics.

The Para-Powerlifting team, fresh off a runner-up finish at the World Championship in Egypt, will commence their campaign on Friday, while the Para-athletes begin competing on Tuesday.

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has expressed strong satisfaction with Team Nigeria’s performance thus far, reaffirming confidence that the athletes are meeting their participation objectives at the tournament in preparation for future international competitions.

Such competitions include next year’s Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
