Oyesade Adetola Olatoye has added to Team Nigeria’s medal tally at the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, by clinching a silver medal in the women’s Hammer Throw.

Olatoye achieved the remarkable feat on Tuesday night with a throw of 63.34 metres in her third attempt. She finished second behind Algeria’s Tatar Zahra, who took home the gold with a throw of 63.55 metres.

Throughout the competition, Olatoye’s initial attempts included throws of 60.58m and 61.91m, before she delivered her best distance in her third attempt. Unfortunately, further attempts to surpass this distance were unsuccessful, with her fourth throw measuring 63.30m, while her fifth and sixth throws were declared invalid.

With Olatoye’s achievement, Team Nigeria’s medal count has now reached 18, comprising six gold, eight silver, and four bronze medals.

After the event, Oyesade Olatoye expressed her excitement about her performance and its potential to inspire her future efforts at the Commonwealth Games.

“I’m just thrilled to be here representing Nigeria and to have won a medal. Throughout the competition, I aimed to increase my intensity, but unfortunately, I struggled with my last two throws due to poor execution. The Commonwealth Games next year is a major target for me, and I’m excited about the opportunity. Securing a medal here is quite an achievement for me; while it may not be gold, it definitely motivates me for greater success next year.”
