The Ogun State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council has accused the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, of impersonation and misconduct involving student leaders in the state.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Gabriel Abiola Francis, and General Secretary, Comrade Adelola Hezekiah Babatunde, the council said Amoo issued a press release while posing as the voice of Students’ Union Government presidents across tertiary institutions. It described the alleged action as “criminal, irresponsible, and a direct assault on the democratic rights of Nigerian students.”
The group said Amoo’s statement was “petty and misleading”, adding that he allegedly used the names of student leaders to defend what it called his “dubious and anti-student activities”.
“It is embarrassing, shambolic and unbefitting of any office claiming to represent student welfare,” the statement added.
NANS Ogun JCC further accused the governor’s aide of “a recurring pattern of intimidation and undue pressure” on SUG presidents. It said the alleged impersonation came after failed attempts to compel them to support his agenda.
“This reckless and undemocratic act violates the sanctity of student leadership structures across Ogun State,” the council said.
The association called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to caution his aide, saying students in the state deserve leaders who uphold truth, fairness and transparency.
The statement was endorsed by SUG presidents and representatives from several institutions, including Olabisi Onabanjo University, DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Tai Solarin University of Education, and the Federal College of Education.
NANS said it remains committed to peace, justice and the progress of the state.
