Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has urged parties in the suit on the dissolution of the elected executive committee of the association and appointment of a caretaker committee by the Lagos State government to respect the decision of the National Industrial Court of 7th November, 2022.

The court ordered the parties to maintain the status quo ante bellum pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice and the substantive suit which was adjourned to the 23rd November, 2022 for hearing.

The call was made in a press statement jointly signed by its deputy national president (Administration), Ambassador Abubakar Muhammad Bishara and the national general secretary, Comrade Yusuf Adeniyi.

They accused the caretaker committee of carrying out illegal activities in Lagos State branch of the union under the guise of running the affairs of RTEAN.

Last month, the Lagos State government dissolved the elected executive committee of the state branch of RTEAN and appointed a caretaker committee to run its affairs.

Bishara said as a law-abiding institution being aggrieved, RTEAN instituted a suit (Suit No. NICN/LA/381/2022) before the National Industrial Court, Lagos challenging the illegal or unlawful action of the Lagos State government in dissolving the elected committee and purportedly appointed a caretaker committee to run its affairs when it is a fact that a state government does not have the power to interfere in the affairs of a trade union registered under the Trade Unions Act, which is a federal law.
