Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under the 2nd Division, have rescued a mother and her six-month-old baby following a kidnapping incident in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed that the incident occurred late on June 3, 2026, when armed men stormed a residence near Solid Rock School in Ijalu, Egbe, abducting five members of the same family, including a woman, her infant, and three other relatives.

According to him, troops responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and immediately mobilised in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

The joint security team launched a coordinated pursuit of the kidnappers along their escape route, maintaining pressure on the fleeing suspects.

The sustained operation forced the abductors to abandon the mother, Mrs. Adekemi Idowu, and her six-month-old baby near the Oro axis, from where they were safely recovered and reunited with their family.

Military authorities confirmed that search and rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the remaining abducted family members and track down the perpetrators behind the attack.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to provide timely and credible intelligence that could support ongoing counter-kidnapping operations across the state.
