A 38-year-old man, Nsikak Kingsley, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly beating his 65-year-old father, Adone Peter, to death following a violent altercation in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of the state.

The police said the incident occurred on May 28 and has sparked concern among residents of the community.

According to a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly engaged his biological father in a dispute that escalated into a physical assault.

The statement said the deceased sustained severe head injuries during the confrontation and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

However, despite efforts by medical personnel, he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

The police disclosed that the case was reported by one Daniel Moses, a son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, prompting detectives to launch an investigation.

Following the report, operatives arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.

“The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation,” the statement read in part.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged killing, describing it as unfortunate and contrary to societal values.

He assured that justice would be served and urged residents to embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes while avoiding violence.

The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
