The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially confirmed Tanzania’s participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, dismissing an appeal lodged by the Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT).
Guinea had contested Tanzania’s qualification, arguing that a Tanzanian player wore an incorrect shirt number during their 1-0 AFCON qualifying victory on 19th November 2024. They claimed this constituted an unfair tactical advantage and sought a 3-0 forfeiture in their favour.
However, CAS ruled that the incident was merely an administrative error with no sporting impact, upholding the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) original decision. This rejection of Guinea’s appeal means Tanzania can now focus on their tournament preparations without further disruption.
The Taifa Stars are in Group C, alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Uganda. Their opening fixture will be against Nigeria in Fez on Tuesday, 23rd December.
