Students’ Abduction: Niger Governor Hails Opposition Party Chairman Over Visit

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has described as a show of humanity, solidarity, and commitment to democracy the visit of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Tanimu Turaki, over the abduction of school children by bandits.

The governor said the activities of terrorists were threats to Nigeria’s democracy and appealed to the citizens to stand against them while Turaki called for the review of the country’s current security architecture.

Turaki visited the governor over the abduction of the children and teachers of St. Mary School, Papiri, Agwara local government area.

Bago enjoined the PDP to continue to contribute to nation-building, adding that opposition strengthens, shapes democracy and government policies.

While acknowledging the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards the rescue of the pupils and their teachers, Bago said all hands were on deck to accomplish the task.

Turaki had said that security issues were critical and called for collaboration to find lasting solutions to them.

He said, “We feel what you feel, and we are with you at this very challenging moment. We will support you in any way we can to ensure that there is peace and progress in Niger State, and indeed throughout our country.

“We may be an opposition party, but we believe in responsible opposition; we believe that at times like this, leaders must forget political differences and come together to find a lasting solution for this problem,” he said.

The PDP chairman commended the state government and security agencies over their efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted school children and their teachers.
