Director Denies Collecting Compensation Fund For Superhighway

The executive director of Rainforest Resource and Development Centre (RRDC), Prince Odey Oyama, has denied allegations that he collected N40 million on behalf of Okuni Community in Ikom local government area of Cross River State, as compensation for the defunct superhighway project.

Oyama made the refutal on Saturday in Calabar in reaction to the allegation making the rounds that he collected the said amount.

“Let it be known that no government ministry, department, agency, or traditional rulers council of the community under reference, has ever communicated anything of this nature to me. He said.

Oyama emphasised that there is no record in the archives of the Cross River State Government certifying that he ever signed for and collected any amount of money on behalf of Okuni Community.

The denial comes after a youth leader in Effi, Okuni community, accused Oyama of collecting the N40 million compensation fund.

The environmental activist attributed the allegations to a concerted effort to tarnish his reputation and undermine his efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the community.

He challenged his accusers to provide evidence to support their claims, stating that no government ministry, department, or agency, or traditional rulers’ council has communicated anything of this nature to him.

“That there is no record in the archives of the Government of Cross River State certifying that I, Prince Odey Oyama, ever signed for and collected any amount of money whatsoever, not even 40 million naira, in the name of or on behalf of OKUNI Community.” He said.

Odey in a statement sighted by LEADERSHIP yesterday debunked the youth leader’s allegation on the issue.
