The Asagba-in-Council, presided over by the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Asagba Prof. Epiphany Azinge, has opposed the rumoured plan to replace Asaba as the capital of the proposed Anioma state.
The council warned those behind the alleged plan to retrace their steps in the interest of peace.

It urged the State Governor, Hon Sheriff Obborevwori and other leaders in the state to investigate the rumour and intervene accordingly to avoid palpable tension and chaos.

The Palace Chief noted that the 13th Asagba of Asaba, late Prof Chike Edozien and some prominent Asaba sons, living and dead, had, at some points in time, championed the Anioma cause, wondering why anyone should contemplate relegating Asaba to the background in the renewed agitation for the creation of the state.

He said that, as the Delta state capital, Asaba had been peaceful and progressive to both the government and residents, including the non-indigenes, and would continue in that stead as the capital of the proposed Anioma state.

Prof Edozien declared that Asaba, as a community, would resist any attempt to pick another capital for the proposed Anioma state.
