WAEC: Ebonyi Govt Warns Against Malpractice

Ebonyi State government has warned school principals, teachers and students of public and private schools to shun examination malpractice ahead of the forthcoming West African Examination Council (WAEC) across the state.

He said the state had over the years been recognised as one where WAEC examination malpractice is not recorded and urged them to continue to sustain the good record.

The commissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary), Dr Donatus Illang, gave the warning in his office when members of the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), Ebonyi State chapter made payment for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for a total of 30 indigent students of Ebonyi State Public Schools drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state.

Illang said that in its determination to ensure that the state continues to maintain the good record of the present administration, a meeting of principals and teachers was recently held in his office to enlightened them on the dangers and effects of examination malpractice amongst students, schools and the state.

He noted that the state government does not and will not tolerate any form of examination malpractice in any school or amongst students and noted that the state is collaborating with the WAEC office to ensure that all is set for the Computer Based Test, CBT ahead of the examination.

He noted that the state government have taken steps to ensure that the halls, the computer systems and other requirements are put in place to make the examination seamless for students of the state and commended WAEC for its support.

He commended the National Association of Seadogs for the step taken to assist the indigent students in the payment of their WAEC fees and urged the association to sustain the gesture to enable indigent students have access to higher institution.

The president of the association, in Ebonyi State, Prince Chidi Aloh said that the establishment of the Nathaniel Oyelola Memorial scholarship, NOMS is aimed at supporting Education in Nigeria adding that the benefiting students are indigent students, students with disabilities and students that have excelled in their academic pursuit.

He encouraged the students to remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence, to embrace the challenges ahead with courage, and to let the scholarship serve as a springboard to greater achievements.
