Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has claimed that a blockbuster transfer of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray to Spanish giants Real Madrid was a genuine possibility.
The 26-year-old forward, currently enjoying a stellar spell in Turkey, is reportedly at the centre of underground talks that could see him lead the line at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Speaking on theGlobal Football Insight Podcast, Oliseh, a respected figure in African football, claimed to have received credible information about Madrid’s interest from a high-level source.
While he refused to reveal his contact, he stated: “There’s a lot of talk under the ground about the possibility of Osimhen being a candidate. I am not going to tell you how I got this information… But when I heard it from a top personality, I was happy for the young man.”
Oliseh framed the potential transfer within a larger squad evolution at Real Madrid. He suggested that acquiring a pure centre-forward like Osimhen would allow the club’s current superstar, Kylian Mbappé, to return to his preferred left-wing position.
The interest from a club of Real Madrid’s calibre stems from Osimhen’s formidable form. Since joining Galatasaray on a permanent deal in July 2025 for a Turkish-record €75 million, he has continued the blistering pace he set during a successful loan spell.
His record last season: 37 goals and 8 assists in 41 matches, leading Galatasaray to a domestic double and finishing as the Super Lig’s top scorer.
He has already netted six goals in just three UEFA Champions League matches this season.
