5 Residents Killed, 6 Others Abducted In Sokoto Banditry Attack

Residents of Gatawa Village in Sabon Birnin local government area of Sokoto State have confirmed a bandits attack in their community resulting in the death of five persons.

Apart from the five people killed in the early morning attack, one other person was also confirmed critically injured.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Six individuals, including two married women, two teenage girls, and two young boys, were abducted by attackers suspected to be armed bandits.”

The anonymous resident narrated that, “The bandits invaded our community around 1:30 am, and started shooting sporadically. Our vigilantes engaged them, but four of them paid the supreme price on the spot.”

He added that two other residents sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to the hospital, but one later died,” the resident recounted.

The source stressed that the attackers also rustled livestock and escaped before security operatives arrived.

“We heard them exchanging fire with security agents, but none of the abducted persons was rescued,” he said.
