Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved a temporary campus for the take-off of the newly established Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science at a site within the Red Bricks Housing Estate, Damaturu.
The commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Ahmad Buba, said the building designated for the temporary campus would be handed over to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for academic use.
He said the facility, which comprises a seven-block complex, formerly occupied by the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and was affected by the 2011 Boko Haram insurgency, had undergone rehabilitation and retrofitting following the directive of Governor Buni.
He said the renovation had restored the complex to modern standards, making it safe, functional and conducive for teaching and learning.
He said upon completion of the additional works at the site, the property would be handed over to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for use by the college.
In furtherance of the vision, a Steering Committee has been constituted to oversee the planning, implementation and seamless take-off of the institution.
The committee, under the chairmanship of the commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, has concluded an international study tour to Indonesia and Malaysia, where members understudied global best practices in integrated science education, innovation-driven learning and institutional sustainability.
The experience gained from the engagement is expected to provide a solid foundation for the smooth take-off and global competitiveness of the college.
Governor Buni recently approved the establishment of the college as part of his administration’s strategic investment in science, technology, innovation and human capital development.
