Bauchi State government has allocated N252 billion in the 2026 budget for the construction of 37 roads to improve promote economic activities.
The permanent secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Hamisu Garba, disclosed this when he defended the ministry’s 2026 budget proposal before the state House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport.
He said the proposed road projects spread across the state are designed to open up rural communities, strengthen urban connectivity and support the government’s commitment to infrastructural development.
To him, the investment reflects the state’s resolve to improve transportation, boost trade and ensure safer and more accessible roads for residents.
Hamisu said the ministry is committed to discharging its mandate and ensuring the timely completion of all ongoing and new projects across the state.
He revealed that improving infrastructure remains a top priority of the present administration, and efforts are being intensified to fast-track work on key road and transport projects.
The permanent secretary explained that all contractors handling various projects have been urged to adhere strictly to specifications and deadlines to guarantee quality delivery and value for money.
He pledged to continue working closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure that infrastructural initiatives are completed promptly for the benefit of residents.
Responding, the chairman, State Assembly Committee on Works and Transport Engineer Adamu Garba Kawu commended the ministry for its comprehensive plan and assured of legislative support toward achieving the projected infrastructural goals in the state.
It would be recalled that about two weeks ago, the Bauchi government inaugurated the construction of about 12 new rural roads worth over N44bn. The project is jointly being implemented with support from RAAMP.
