The leading contenders for the title at the ongoing Top Eight Masters Tennis Tournament, held at the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938, have so far lived up to expectations. These top players have enjoyed a relatively smooth passage, securing two victories in their opening two round-robin matches.

In the men’s draw, second seed Kalada Kienka triumphed over Akeem Mustafa with a 6-3, 6-3 scoreline on Tuesday evening. Defending champion and third seed, Destiny Da Silva, also secured his second win, defeating Godwin Kienka 6-0, 6-4.

The ladies’ top seed, Mirella Eccli, delivered a commanding performance, beating Effiong Ejehi 6-0, 6-0, while second seed Lolia Kienka dispatched Nene Lawani 6-0, 6-1. Men’s top seed, Chiwete Njokanma, was equally dominant, cruising to a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Chinedu Idike.

Diran Famakinwa, Chairman of the Ikoyi Club Tennis section, expressed his satisfaction with the performances of the top players. “Those responsible for the top eight ranking have done an excellent job. While upsets are always possible, we have undoubtedly selected the cream of the crop for this year-end tournament,” Famakinwa stated.

The Megabound-sponsored Top Eight Tennis Masters continues on Thursday at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Tennis Courts, with the competition concluding on Saturday, December 13th.
