Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, will fulfil his promise to reward medal winners from the 2025 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival and the 2025 National Youth Games (NYG)at a special awards ceremony slated for Tuesday, December 16, 2025, LEADERSHIP Sunday learnt at the weekend.
The Governor Umo Eno Sports Award ceremony, according to the Ministry of Sports led by the Commissioner, Elder Paul Bassey, the event will take place at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, the State capital.
According to the organisers, “the event is aimed at celebrating and rewarding outstanding athletes who represented the State with distinction in 2025.”
“Medalists from the state sports festival and the National Youth Games are expected to receive prizes in recognition of their performances, as part of the Governor’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment in the State,” the Ministry disclosed.
“The ceremony will also feature former Green Eagles captain and 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Chief Segun Odegbami (MON), who has confirmed his attendance.
“Popularly known as ‘Mathematical’, Odegbami will join other sports stakeholders and government officials to add colour to the awards ceremony,” the Ministry said, adding that he would also deliver a motivational talk titled “Sports and I” to inspire young athletes.
