The Presidency, on Monday, hailed President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms after Nigeria surpassed its 2025 inflation target.

The latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that headline inflation fell to 14.45% in November 2025, down from 16.05% in October, marking the eighth consecutive month of decline.

Speaking on the development, Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, described the figures as proof of the impact of “tough, radical reforms and disciplined economic management.”

He said, “In January, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu set a 15% inflation target. Many doubted it. Today, the facts have answered them. Headline inflation eased to 14.45% in November 2025, surpassing the target and falling from 16.05% in October.”

Bwala further maintained that the improvement indicated Nigeria was “steadily turning the corner,” adding, “Promise made, promise being fulfilled every step of the way.”

The NBS report showed that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose slightly to 130.5 points in November, up from 128.9 points in October, reflecting a 1.6-point month-on-month increase. On a year-on-year basis, November 2025’s inflation is 20.15 percentage points lower than the 34.60 per cent recorded in November 2024. While headline inflation edged up slightly month-on-month to 1.22 per cent from 0.93 per cent, food inflation also rose, reaching 1.13 per cent compared with a negative 0.37 per cent in October.

President Tinubu had first set the 15 per cent inflation target during his 2025 budget presentation and reiterated it in his New Year’s address, framing it as part of a broader effort to restore economic stability. When he assumed office in May 2023, Nigeria was grappling with an inflation rate of over 22 per cent, underscoring the challenges he inherited.

The recent decline in inflation, according to the Presidency, signalled that the government’s policies were making tangible progress toward stabilising the economy and easing the cost of living for Nigerians.
