Skibo Global FC have emerged as champions of the inaugural Pastor Hilary Chukwuma Football Tournament (PHCFT), held at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja. They defeated Graceland FC 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time.
The tournament, which ran from 2nd to 13th December 2025, featured ten teams comprising inmates and correctional officers. It was organised to promote rehabilitation, discipline, and social reintegration within the custodial system.
Christopher Peter Jen, FCT Command Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, stated that the initiative aligns with the reform agenda of the Minister of Interior and the Controller-General of Corrections, prioritising rehabilitation over punishment. “Sports activities help reduce depression, encourage positive behaviour, and prepare inmates for reintegration into society,” he added.
Pastor Hilary Chukwuma, the tournament’s sponsor, explained that the initiative was inspired by a desire to positively impact youths and inmates through football, skills development, and moral re-orientation. He urged Nigerian youths to avoid crime and make productive use of their freedom, especially during the festive season.
The event attracted notable figures, including former Senate President Senator Anyim Pius Anyim and former PDP National Publicity Secretary Chief Olisa Metuh. Pastor Chukwuma announced plans to expand the tournament in future editions, and trophies and medals were presented to outstanding teams and players.
