Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has directed full payment of outstanding allowances to the staff members of Northwest University, Kano.
Governor Yusuf gave the directive on Thursday when he received the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, at his office in Kano.
According to a statement by his spokesperson, Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor made the remarks during the 35th State Executive Council meeting, when the Pro-Chancellor of the university led members of the Governing Council and management on a courtesy visit to formally present Prof. Bayero to the state government.
Bayero, a pioneer academic staff member of the state-owned university, emerged as the first female Vice Chancellor of Northwest University after rising through the academic ranks.
Yusuf urged the new vice chancellor to carry out her duties with diligence and to work harmoniously with staff, students and other stakeholders to strengthen academic excellence during her five-year tenure.
He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to addressing the challenges facing the institution and announced that all outstanding Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) owed to university staff would be paid before the end of December.
The governor also directed the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning to assess the university’s land holdings and revoke any illegal allocations or encroachments allegedly carried out by the previous administration.
The Pro-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, disclosed that the selection of a substantive Vice Chancellor took ten months and was unanimously endorsed by the Governing Council.
He added that the appointment of the first female Vice Chancellor had been widely applauded.
In her remarks, Bayero expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and pledged total commitment to the assignment.
