Ethnic Leaders Reject Joint Northern Security Fund

The Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Nationalities Community Development Associations (CONAECDA) has rejected the resolutions of the Northern Governors’ Forum asking states to contribute N1 billion monthly to a joint fund to tackle insecurity in the region.

This is contained in a communique issued at the end of its 2025 conference held in Jos at the weekend.

According to the communique which was signed by its president, Mr. Danladi Jeji, CONAECDA appreciates some of the resolutions of the Northern Governors’ Forum to tackle insecurity, but does not subscribe to asking states to contribute N1 billion monthly to a joint fund at the northern regional level.

The communique instead called on the governors to utilise such funds for the establishment of state and community policing in their respective states to curtail the raising insecurity in the region.

CONAECDA also directed its secretariat to continue to strengthen community-based early warning and early response systems in synergy with the government and community associations.

The conference further called on state governments to purge itself of all those clearly recognised to be associated with terrorism while also urging the United States government to follow-up on the earlier recommendation of the Undersecretary of State following interaction with CONAECDA to enhance community based early warning and early response system.

According to the communique, CONAECDA welcome any legitimate intervention that would stop the killing of innocent Nigerians irrespective of religion or tribe and warned against any intervention that would further complicate the precarious security situation in Nigeria, leading to more loss of lives.
