Four people have lost their lives in an accident that occurred during the 2025 Eggon Cultural Carnival on Sunday at Nassarawa Eggon Town in Nasarawa State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the carnival procession was ongoing around the Eggon Community Secondary School when a truck lost control and rammed into the people, killing three persons, on Sunday.

Two other trucks ran into the accident scene, causing multiple mishaps.

Witnesses said scores of other people sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the accident.

Nasarawa State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) through its Commander, Yahaya Sabo-Adikwu, confirmed the incident and casualties.

Sabo-Adikwu said the accident happened when one of the trucks ran into the procession from the Palace of Aren Eggon, Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku (Rtd)

He added that the patticipants were on their way towards the Eggon Community Secondary School when the accident occurred.

The Sector Commander attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving.

He said the remains of the deceased persons had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has expressed shock over the unfortunate loss of lives during the 2025 Eggon Cultural Carnival.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, the governor described the incident as the dark moment in Eggon history, stressing that the entire State was mourning.

The governor extends his heartfelt condolences to the Aren Eggon, the immediate families of the victims and the entire Eggon nation over the unfortunate incident, while also praying for the swift and full recovery of the injured.

“It is sad to note that, what was meant to be a celebration of culture, unity and joy turned into a scene of unimaginable grief when a truck crashed into the procession, claiming precious lives and leaving many others injured.

“As we mourn, we also understand the wisdom behind the cancellation of the carnival by the organisers. This speaks volumes about the gravity of the situation and their commitment to honouring the fallen and supporting the wounded,” he stated.
