The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm over the circulation of counterfeit brand of a condoms – Kiss, which is in major markets across Nigeria, warning of serious public health risks.
In Public Alert No. 042/2025 issued on Monday, December 29, 2025, NAFDAC disclosed that intelligence from DKT International Nigeria revealed that fake versions of the condom brand are being sold in markets across Onitsha, Idumota, Trade Fair, Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe, Enugu and other locations nationwide.
NAFDAC cautioned that the falsified condoms do not meet safety and quality standards and may expose users to infections, allergic reactions and product failure, while giving a false sense of protection against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.
The agency identified key differences between the original and fake products, such as darker packaging, incorrect manufacturer details, missing storage information, inconsistent barcodes and poorly printed instructions, as well as variations in condom shape, size and lubrication.
NAFDAC said all zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to intensify surveillance and mop up the counterfeit products from markets nationwide.
The agency advised the public to buy medical products only from authorised sources and urged Nigerians to report suspected fake or substandard products to the nearest NAFDAC office or through its toll-free line.
