Nigerian actor Yul Edochie has criticised the decision of the late Alex Ekubo to keep his marriage private. He said public figures should not hide their personal lives because of public opinion.

Edochie made the remarks while reacting to online discussions. Bloggers had shared photos and videos of Ekubo’s wife after his death. This sparked backlash from some social media users. They accused the posts of invading the family’s privacy.

In his response, Edochie said people will always talk, no matter what. He argued that trying to avoid criticism by staying private is unnecessary. He added that public commentary comes with fame.

He urged individuals to live freely. He also advised them not to be weighed down by online opinions.

He said:

“He shouldn’t have hidden anything from anyone. It wasn’t necessary. People must learn to stop worrying about what people say. No matter what you do in life, people must talk.

“So leave them to talk. Leave blogs to blog. To be great in life, you must never make yourself small for anyone or any reason. Give them things to talk about while you ignore them and enjoy your life.”

His comments came in response to a post by skit maker Nasboi, who criticised blogs for sharing photos of Ekubo’s late wife.

Nasboi accused the platforms of exploiting the situation. He also pointed out that Ekubo had deliberately kept his marriage private and out of public attention.

Nasboi wrote:

“Alex Ekubo kept his marriage away from the vulture internet. Now that he’s gone, blogs are already digging up and posting his wife’s information. But na some of una still talk say na gay. These blogs are vampires….”
