New Institute President Promises Professional Excellence

Engr. Felix Adegboye has assumed office as the 22nd president of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), pledging a new era of innovation, inclusiveness, and professional excellence in Nigeria’s engineering sector.

At his inauguration yesterday at the Institute’s National Secretariat Abuja, Adegboye described the handover not merely as a transfer of leadership but as a renewal of purpose and commitment to the future of electrical and electronic engineering in the country.

“With deep humility and a strong sense of duty, I accept the responsibility to serve as President. The next two years will focus on consolidating gains, reimagining the Institute’s future, and ensuring national influence, global relevance, and professional respect for our members,” Adegboye said.

He outlined key priorities for his administration, including strengthening professional standards, expanding membership, fostering collaboration with government and academia, and harnessing emerging technologies for national development.

Adegboye also emphasized member engagement, mentorship, and collective action to achieve the Institute’s goals.

Highlighting the operationalization of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, he described it as both a responsibility and an opportunity to redefine professional competence, uphold integrity, and enhance public trust.

The outgoing president, Engr. Felix O. Olu, commended the Institute’s achievements during his tenure, noting a rise in revenue from N18 million in 2023 to over N65 million in 2025.

He highlighted milestones such as the induction of over 1,000 new members, the conferment of fellowships on 150 senior engineers, and the expansion of student and regional chapters nationwide.

Olu urged the incoming leadership to maintain momentum, deepen digitalization, strengthen welfare policies, enhance industry collaborations, and engage the next generation of engineers.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Engr. Kings Adeyemi, president of the Chartered Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Nigeria, and Engr. Atinuke Owolabi, chairperson of the 22nd Presidential Investiture Planning Committee.

Both commended the outgoing leadership and encouraged Adegboye to lead with transparency and inclusivity.

The ceremony, attended by past presidents, council members, fellows, industry stakeholders, and partners, marked a seamless transition and reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to advancing engineering practice in Nigeria.

“I call on all members to actively participate, innovate, and contribute to the Institute’s mission. Together, we can build an Institute that empowers professionals, drives national development, and inspires future generations of engineers,” Adegboye added.
