Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, has urged the people of the state to continue to draw lessons from life and death, stressing that the inevitability of death should guide human conduct, promote humility and discourage hatred and envy.
The governor made the call on Tuesday at the swearing-in of Hon. Adam Jibrin as the new chairman of Yusufari local government area held at the Government House, Damaturu.
The former chairman, Alhaji Baba Abba Aji, passed away in Cairo, Egypt, where he had travelled for medical attention and was subsequently buried.
Governor said, “The fall of the yellow leaf from a tree is a warning to the green one,” explaining that every death serves as a lesson for the living and a reminder of the temporary nature of life.
According to him, when individuals constantly remember that they will one day return to their Creator, they are more likely to conduct their affairs with responsibility, compassion, and fairness, while refraining from envy, hatred, and unnecessary conflict.
“Every death is a lesson. If people always remember that one day they will also die, they will not hate one another, they will not envy one another, and they will live in peace,” the governor stated.
Governor Buni described the late chairman as a committed and dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the welfare of his people and the development of grassroots governance, noting that his demise is a great loss not only to Yusufari local government area but to Yobe State as a whole.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased and asked Almighty Allah to grant his immediate family, relatives, associates, and the people of Yusufari local government area the fortitude and patience to bear the irreparable loss.
Buni also called on public office holders and citizens alike to live lives worthy of positive remembrance, stressing that leadership and public service are temporary trusts that must be discharged with sincerity, honesty, and the fear of God.
