The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has disowned a circular circulating on social media claiming that the institution would reopen last Friday, January 2, 2026, with an accommodation fee of N80,000.

In a press release issued by the university’s information and public relations officer, Zailani Bappa, the school’s management described the circular as fake and misleading, stressing that it did not originate from the university’s Registry.

According to the statement, the forged circular, dated December 29, 2025, falsely advised parents and guardians of an early resumption date and carried a forged signature of the University Registrar, Alhaji Kabiru Garba Aminu.

“The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University has noted with concern the circulation of a purported circular on some social media platforms,” the statement said.

The statement added that the university has completely distanced itself from the intent and content of the document.

Management urged parents, guardians, students, and other stakeholders to disregard the fake circular and rely only on information released through official university channels.

The university reiterated that the official resumption date for returning students remains Monday, January 5, 2026, while new students are expected to resume on Monday, January 12, 2026, as approved in the Senate academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The statement further clarified that the university has not reviewed and does not intend to review registration or accommodation fees for both new and returning students at this time.
