The Parents’ Association of Maryam Abacha American University (MAAUN) has praised the founder and president of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, for the hitch-free conduct of the institution’s maiden convocation.
The association’s chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Balarabe, made the commendation on behalf of parents during an interaction with journalists after the ceremony held at the university’s campus in Kano.
He said the parents were impressed by Gwarzo’s decision to sponsor 45 best graduands for postgraduate studies in foreign universities, describing the initiative as a boost to academic excellence and human capital development.
According to him, the gesture had strengthened parents’ confidence in the institution and encouraged them to recommend the university to other families seeking quality and affordable higher education.
The association also lauded the university management for its sustained investment in academic development, infrastructure and quality assurance, noting that despite its rapid growth, MAAUN remains one of the most affordable private universities in Nigeria.
Mustapha said while some private universities charge between N6 million and N7 million in tuition fees for nursing programmes, MAAUN charges less than N2 million per academic session.
It, however, expressed concern over what it described as attempts by a few individuals to discredit the institution, describing such actions as unfortunate and unwarranted.
“MAAUN continues to offer quality education in a conducive academic environment at a cost that is significantly lower than many private universities.
Some institutions charge up to three times MAAUN’s fees without attracting public criticism. It is therefore puzzling why MAAUN is being singled out,” he said.
