Kaduna State commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, has said that Governor Uba Sani’s 785 road projects across the state were improving health outcomes.

Addressing media executives and editors at the ongoing Kaduna State–UNICEF high-level engagement on strengthening media partnership for improved healthcare held in Zaria, Maiyaki emphasized how infrastructure and nutrition financing were driving real health improvements across the state under Governor Sani.

The commissioner who stated this yesterday said that expanded rural road networks were improving access to healthcare, while Kaduna’s ₦750 million investment in Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) is strengthening child nutrition and survival, particularly in underserved communities.

He noted that, “Through 785 rural road projects, the state has cut travel time to primary healthcare centres, reduced delays in emergency referrals, and ensured last-mile delivery of essential medicines.”

“Improved connectivity is also supporting routine immunisation, antenatal care, and community outreach, helping residents access care promptly.

Kaduna’s nutrition initiative makes it the first sub-national government in Nigeria to commit domestic resources at this scale to RUTF, improving early detection and treatment of severe acute malnutrition, reinforcing primary healthcare nutrition services, and reducing reliance on emergency donor support” Maiyaki said.

Maiyaki explained that these interventions were highlighted during the high-level strategic engagement convened by the Kaduna State Ministry of Information in collaboration with UNICEF, bringing media executives and editors together to amplify accurate, timely, and people-centred health information.

The commissioner however stressed the media’s critical role. “When communities are connected, health services follow. When nutrition is prioritised, children survive and thrive. The media helps ensure our people understand and use these services,” Maiyaki stated.
