A former Social Democratic Party (SDP) aspirant for Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Hon. Mubarak Hamisu Usman, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A statement yesterday in Abuja by the Gombe State chairman of the APC said, Hon. Usman notified the party leadership of his decision to leave the SDP and join the APC with immediate effect, following extensive consultations with constituents, political associates, and stakeholders.
Explaining his decision, Usman described the APC as a party with the ideological clarity, institutional strength, and national outlook required to deliver sustainable development and democratic dividends at both the federal and grassroots levels.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he termed bold, reform-oriented leadership, noting that the administration’s policies demonstrate political courage and long-term thinking aimed at stabilising the economy and strengthening democratic institutions.
“President Tinubu has shown the capacity to take difficult but necessary decisions in the overall interest of national progress. His leadership provides a framework within which committed representatives can effectively serve their people,” Usman said.
Reaffirming his political ambition, Usman stated that his aspiration to represent the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency remains anchored on effective representation, grassroots development, accountable governance, and people-centred legislation.
He expressed appreciation to members and supporters of the SDP for their support during his time in the party, stressing that his core values and commitment to public service remain unchanged despite the shift in party affiliation.
Hon. Usman further pledged his loyalty to the APC and readiness to work with party leaders and members to promote unity, deepen democratic participation, and advance policies that address the socio-economic needs of communities across the constituency and Gombe State at large.
