A businessman, Omotayo Olukose, from Kwara State residing in Kaduna State, is still missing following his abduction in February 2025, after failing to return home from work.
His sudden disappearance immediately raised serious concern among his family and members of the community, prompting a formal report to be lodged with the police.
Exactly two days after he went missing, the family received a distressing telephone call from individuals identifying themselves as his kidnappers. During the call, they demanded a substantial ransom for his release and issued grave threats of harm should their demands not be met.
Several months later, while the family was still living in uncertainty and fear, the abductors further communicated with the family through a Short Message Service (SMS), in which they claimed that Omotayo Olukose had been killed. This message deepened the family’s trauma and despair, as no physical evidence or official confirmation was provided to substantiate the claim.
Since the abduction, the family has lived in a state of persistent fear and anxiety. His wife and children, in particular, remain traumatised and fearful of further threats. The kidnappers reportedly warned the family that their movements were being closely monitored, leading to advice that they limit their movements and avoid public places.
This incident highlights the growing insecurity in the region, where cases of kidnapping for ransom have become increasingly prevalent. Although the police have assured the family of their commitment to the investigation, the prolonged lack of progress has further intensified their distress.
As a result of this ordeal, the family continues to feel unsafe and vulnerable, with no clear resolution in sight. Despite the message received from the abductors, the family remains without official closure and continues to seek assistance from the authorities and the wider community.
