Former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun, has described the newly published book entitled ‘Contemporary Law of Tort in Nigeria’ as a timely and essential resource for enhancing understanding of civil wrongs, especially amid increasing digital and societal complexities.

The book on Law of Tort, which addresses a branch of civil law that deals with wrongful acts or omissions that cause harm or injury to individuals, leading to legal liability, was written by Uche Val Obi (SAN).

At the public presentation of the book in Lagos, Olanipekun said that Tort law affects the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians in ways many do not realise.

He stated that by producing a modern and thoroughly researched text, Obi had provided both the courts and practitioners with a valuable compass for navigating today’s challenges.

The ceremony was attended by prominent legal figures, including judges, senior lawyers, academics, and law students, who praised the book’s depth and timely publication.

While reviewing the book, Professor Fabian Ajogwu (SAN) commended Obi’s scholarship, describing the book as a masterful blend of doctrine and practicality.

Ajogwu observed that the text extends beyond conventional tort principles to address novel and emerging issues: “This is the kind of work that strengthens jurisprudence. It speaks to the future of litigation in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the author stated that the book was not designed solely for lawyers but for all people, especially those who cannot afford legal recourse.

Obi maintained that the book also seeks to shed light on emerging areas of law, such as class actions, transnational torts, and data-related claims.

“I wanted to create a work that reflects our local realities while acknowledging global shifts in tort law,” he stated. “I hope it becomes a trusted resource for students, scholars, and practitioners for years to come,” he said.
