Deputy Senate president, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has announced plans to distribute tricycles and motorcycles to students, headmasters, and other beneficiaries in the Kano North Senatorial District as part of a comprehensive empowerment programme aimed at enhancing access to education and improving livelihoods.
The initiative, unveiled during a press briefing yesterday by his special assistant on Media and Publicity, Hon. Shitu Madaki Kunchi, includes the provision of 1,300 tricycles specifically targeted at students, as well as 1,000 motorcycles for headmasters, teachers and other residents in the district.
According to him, the scheme is designed to ease transportation challenges, enhance school attendance and support income-generating activities.
He noted that the empowerment programme also features a free capital support scheme of N100,000 each for 100 beneficiaries in every local government area of Kano North. The monthly support will commence in February 2026 and run until December 2026, covering 1,300 beneficiaries per month and a total of 15,600 beneficiaries within the period.
Other components of the programme, he added, include the distribution of 130 vehicles to transport associations, 1,300 sewing machines for women, 1,300 noodle-making machines with bags of flour, and 1,300 deep freezers for small-scale businesses.
In sports development, each local government area will receive jerseys and footballs for 150 teams, amounting to 1,950 teams across the district.
Hon. Kunchi said the initiative is expected to benefit about 25,000 people, boost economic activities, improve educational outcomes and promote grassroots sports development, maintaining that similar empowerment programmes would later be extended to Kano Central and Kano South senatorial districts.
