Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has called on Nigerians to continue to support the Nigerian Army and the families of the fallen heroes.
He made the call at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance and Wreath-Laying Ceremony in Minna, the state capital.
He noted that military personnel have been making significant efforts to maintain the security and sovereignty of the nation, where many have paid the supreme price, while some of the survivors are incapacitated.
“It’s a clarion call for everybody in Nigeria to support the families of the fallen heroes. And we should do whatever we can do as a government and as individuals to continue to support them and their children”, he stressed.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the laying of the wreath by the farmer governor; speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji; chief judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim AbdulMalik; chairman of the Niger Council of Traditional Rulers and Etsu Nupe, Alh. Yagaha Abubakar.
Others are Commanders of TRADOC Nigeria Army, 31 Artillery Brigade, 013 Quick Response Force, Nigerian Air Force, the Commissioner of Police, the State Chapter Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Vet. Awo Babangida Garba, and a representative of the widows of the fallen heroes.
Pigeons were also released to symbolise peace in the state and country. Gun salutes, inspection of Guard of Honour and prayers were also offered for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes.
