Arsenal are reportedly facing a significant fitness worry regarding Kai Havertz, with his knee issue flaring up once more following his return from a prolonged absence. The
Fox Sport report indicates that the German international’s knee, which sustained ligament damage against Manchester United earlier in the season, has become problematic again.
Havertz, who hasn’t started for the Gunners since August 17th, made his comeback as a second-half substitute in the FA Cup third-round victory over Portsmouth, and also featured for eight minutes against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. Despite pushing himself to return, his ongoing knee troubles meant he was surprisingly omitted from the squad against AC Milan in the Champions League, as manager Mikel Arteta carefully manages his minutes.
The club is reportedly concerned that Havertz may not reach full fitness for some time, suggesting his playing time will need to be continually monitored throughout the remainder of the season, and potentially beyond.
He is, however, expected to be gradually reintroduced over the coming weeks.
Arteta previously expressed his confidence in Havertz’s talent, stating: “If everything goes well, I think he’s going to be in the squad again in the next few days. He trains well, he’s increased his load, he’s coping with that really well and he will be ready when we can have him.”
This quote highlights Arteta’s initial optimism about Havertz’s recovery and readiness to return to the squad.
He further added on the high expectations for Havertz: “Yes, but I understand this is the level as well. And when a player has the chance to put our shirt on and compete for us, you know that the demands are excellence – and that’s it. Kai is aware of that.”
Arteta’s comments here underscore the pressure on players at Arsenal to perform at an elite level, a standard Havertz is expected to meet.
