Florence Ajimobi has refuted a video circulating on social media that shows her declaring ‘war’ against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2027 elections in Oyo State, describing the footage as digitally manipulated with artificial intelligence.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, Dr. Ajimobi’s office confirmed that the video iwa an AI-generated deepfake.
“The footage is a deepfake, where artificial intelligence has been used to manipulate the lip movements and voice to deliver a script that Dr. Ajimobi never spoke,” the statement said.
The statement highlighted the broader implications of such synthetic media, noting that AI-generated content can be weaponizsd to influence political narratives.
“This video is a clear example of the ‘synthetic deception’ that experts have warned will be used to influence the 2027 political cycle. The use of AI to impersonate public figures and manufacture controversial statements is a dangerous precedent that undermines the integrity of democratic discourse,” it added.
Dr. Ajimobi’s office also urged the public, media outlets, and security agencies to verify the authenticity of content before sharing or reporting it. “In an era where digital manipulation is becoming increasingly sophisticated, it is vital to confirm the source and accuracy of such inflammatory content before distribution,” the statement advised.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Dr. Ajimobi’s commitment to democratic principles and her intent to pursue legal action against the creators and distributors of the video.
This clarification comes after earlier reports of a viral video showing Mrs Ajimobi declaring the 2027 upcoming elections as a ‘war’ and saying that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ‘must go’ in Oyo State.
