What began as an ordinary work day at the Edo State Government House turned into a life-changing moment for three civil servants whose quiet dedication did not go unnoticed by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

For months, the governor had been watching not from a distance, but with keen personal interest. He noticed their discipline, their punctuality and one striking moment that stayed with him: a staff member trekking briskly to work, determined not to be late.

The staff unseen commitment was rewarded when Governor Okpebholo presented brand new Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to three staff members of the Government House and Protocol Directorate as recognition for their exceptional service.

While handing over the vehicles, the governor explained that the timing of the presentation was intentional.

He said, “Today, I allowed this to happen late because I wanted to know whether you would close early so that you will miss your luck.”

He recalled the moment that truly caught his attention.

“God kept you, and it has been your habit that you come early and close late. One day I saw you trekking and walking very fast to get to the office before time, so I took note of that. I watch carefully.

You deserve this, and I want you to continue in this manner. We are here to serve Edo people.”

The governor praised the beneficiaries for their consistency, noting that excellence in public service is often built on unseen sacrifices and personal discipline.

Overwhelmed by the gesture, one of the beneficiaries, Mary Salami of the Protocol Department, could barely find words to express her gratitude.

“I’m so excited and short of words. I really don’t know what to say,” she told journalists.

She added, “I am very grateful to Mr. Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo. I pray that God Almighty will bless and prosper him and give him the grace to make the right decisions at all times.”

The other beneficiaries are Sylvanus, also of the Protocol Department, and Mike Oshioshio from the ICT unit, all serving under the Government House Directorate.
