With just eight days remaining until the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, anticipation is soaring as organisers confirm substantial financial incentives for athletes across all race categories. This move further solidifies the event’s reputation as Africa’s premier road race.

Runners in the 10km race, for both men and women, are particularly jubilant, with prize money structured to reward top performances. The first-place winner will receive N500,000, followed by N400,000 for second, N300,000 for third, N200,000 for fourth, and N100,000 for fifth. This inclusive prize structure underscores the marathon’s dedication to fostering broad participation and acknowledging excellence beyond the elite marathon distance.

Beyond the 10km category, significant rewards have already been announced. The elite 42km international marathon boasts a total prize purse of $250,000, with $50,000 going to the winner and prizes extending to the top eight finishers. This reinforces the race’s World Athletics Gold Label status.

Nigerian runners are also set to benefit considerably, with millions of naira allocated for top finishers in the Nigerian marathon category. Winners in the local elite race will earn ₦2 million, with prize money extending to the 10th position, promoting wider financial inclusion and motivating homegrown talent.

As the 14th of February approaches, the blend of global prestige, competitive depth, and attractive prize offerings continues to draw athletes from Nigeria and worldwide, setting the stage for another historic Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
