President Bola Tinubu’s horse Ramadan, on Saturday, emerged winner of the International Renewed Hope Horse Racing Competition held in Daura local government area of Katsina State.

Ramadan clinched the prestigious Presidential Cup after a thrilling 1,600-metre race, outperforming top contenders from across the region.

The victory earned the champion horse a saloon car and cash prize, while Lailatul Qadr of SD Stable finished second to receive ₦1 million.

In the fiercely contested Governor Dikko Umaru Radda Cup, Badauri, owned by the Katsina State House of Assembly through Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, galloped to victory in the 2,000-metre Sudan Open race.

Zara, owned by Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata, came second and pocketed ₦1 million, while Militao of Speedy Stable and Dan Lion of Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura finished third and fourth, respectively.

The Emir of Daura Cup was won by Lailatul Qadr of Speedy Stable, with Tahuna of Ameer Stable placing second. Only God’s Grace, owned by Alhaji Saleh Jockey, and Mutaziz of Speedy Stable finished third and fourth, respectively.

At the Emir of Muslims’ Cup, Speedy II of Speedy Stable dominated the race to take first position, ahead of Karab and Gari, owned by Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura. Zaki and Aluwo, both from SD Stable, settled for third and fourth places, respectively.

Across all major races, first-place winners went home with a saloon car and cash prize, second-place finishers received ₦1 million, while third and fourth positions earned ₦600,000 and ₦400,000, respectively. Other races included the Etsu Nupe Cup, further highlighting elite equestrian talent.

The competition, organised by the Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria under the leadership of Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata, attracted participants from Nigeria, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso, reinforcing Daura’s growing status as a hub for horse racing and cultural tourism.

Katsina State governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, who attended the closing ceremony, commended the organisers and participants for sustaining the region’s rich horse-racing heritage and promoting unity across borders.

The event was also attended by the Emir of Daura, HRH Umar Faruq Umar; members of the Katsina State House of Assembly; senior government officials, and international guests.
