The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, has said that the state has grown from strength to strength over the past five decades, nurturing leaders, scholars, farmers, artisans, and other professionals.
These groups, in particular, the emir said, had spearheaded developmental contributions to the state and country at large.
Dr Adamu was speaking at a durbar organised by his emirate council as part of activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary of its creation in 1976 at the weekend.
The emir told the crowd at the colourful durbar held at the Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu Square that, “Our rich culture, tradition, values mean a source of pride and inspiration”.
He appreciated the courage of those who fought tirelessly for the creation of Bauchi State, saying, “Few are still with us; these men and women who sacrificed their time and resources to make the state a reality”.
The emir added, “Many of them have since passed, may Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala reward them eternal rest, Ameen. The few that are still with us deserve not only our respect, but our active celebration”.
According to him, “Their stories should be taught to our children so that every generation knows who carries a touch that lit the path of Bauchi state creation”.
“Their families should be celebrated, supported and facilitated for the broad sacrifice alongside them. I call on government, traditional institutions and civil society organisations to ensure that these elbotres are immortalised in a manner befitting their struggles through willingness, scholarships, community projects and annual remembrances,” he noted.
Emir Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu said that the house of Bauchi, the Bauchi state council of emirs and chiefs, is calling upon all citizens to continue working together for the prosperity of Bauchi state, while holding to the values of honesty, hard work, and compassion that define them.
